The short answer: sometimes, and that’s what you need to be careful about.
The longer answer: it’s going to depend on what the school you’re trying to transfer thinks of said online school. You might notice that the TV ads for some of the well-advertised schools says “limited transferability of credits” down at the bottom. . . and that’s because a lot of traditional schools either don’t have something down at that low level to count them as or just don’t think they’re worthwhile enough credits to accept if you’re going to then start taking their classes and get a degree from them. (Online schools as a whole don’t have a great reputation in academia, so consider yourself warned if you choose to go that route.) Having a degree or not having a degree from there doesn’t actually matter as far as helping to make the credits transfer, it’s just that you have a previous degree that they may or may not care about for your program of interest.
Credits don’t always transfer the best between schools (yes, including traditional, well-respected ones) in the first place unless you know what you’re doing and plan ahead, so you may want to have specifics and ask a prospective future school about that. Sometimes perfectly legitimate credits will transfer fine, but they’re just labeled as “general credit” or will get called equivalent to a class that won’t count toward the degree you’re pursuing at the next school. And that’s not really going to help you much. . . .

If the online classes are from a regional accredited school, they should transfer, but it is up to the school that you are transferring to how they want to interpret the credits. For example, I took Anthropology at ECU and when I went to a comm college, they took that class and it was made into an elective credit instead of a history credit. There’s really no way to be completely sure until you check with the school you want to transfer to. You do need to make sure it is regionally accredited, though or you won’t get any credits transferred at all.
