I have taken some courses at a state school but online is the option i am going with. I don’t want to spend the time and money of the associate degree from an online school isn’t accepted at Police Departments in Wisconsin. Any information regarding my question would be greatly appreciated.

Police departments are pleased if they can get applicants who read and write. That’s not a joke. He’s dead now, but I knew a Chief of Police in Florida who signed his tickets with an X. I policed for five years in Alabama and some of my coworkers were only marginally more literate.

If it is an accredited college, the police department should accept it as a credible education source.
My husband did the same through Limestone College here in SC. He is finishing his 4 year degree now.
Good luck!
EDIT: I assumed you asked this because a degree will mean a higher salary when hired. I’m sure you know you don’t need a degree to be a cop.
You do not need a degree in South Carolina to be a cop. But if you have a degree, you make more money. I apologize to the poster below. I figured the guidelines were similar. The other posters were making it seem like if you can read a few basic sentences that you can be a cop, so I guess degrees aren’t required in other areas as well.

Independend101, you do need a degree to be a police officer. What are you talking about?
I work for a department in the Milwaukee area, and they wouldn’t take an online degree. I had a few credits I took online and those credits didn’t cound towards my 60. It’s usually pretty specific to whatever department you’re looking at. You need to call and ask somebody if your degree would be acceptable.

Most of the police departments around here will take you as long as you can fog a mirror.
